Bastille Day July 14thCelebrate Bastille Day, by dining out with the French! The French national holiday is officially observed on Thursday July 14th, but many French restaurants in the United States are offering special deals on select menu items all week long. Pre-fixe menus are often featured so Bastille Day is a great opportunity to have a romantic evening out and sample classic French cuisine. Famous French delicacies like escargot, duck confit,les cuisses de grenouilles (frog legs), boeuf bourguignon, and soupe de poisson may not be for the faint of heart, but if you your palate is adventurous then French food is a must try!

Bastille Day commemorates the storming of the Bastille and marks the beginning of the French Revolution. The Bastille, (which was a prison) was stormed by civilians in order to gain ammunition so they could ward off an attack by the royal militia. The seizing of the Bastille was the catalyst to the uprising against the monarchy and the eventual birth of the First Republic in 1792. Bastille Day is celebrated in France with Europe’s largest military parade in Paris, communal meals, and firework displays. So, whether you are accustomed to French cuisine or want to step out of your regular dining routine, make a reservation at a French restaurant this week in honor Bastille Day!
